克莱蒙特学院于1925年正式成立,距离洛杉矶市中心东部仅35英里,包括5所本科院校――波莫纳学院(pomona college)、斯克瑞普斯学院(scripps college)、克莱蒙特・麦肯纳学院(claremont mckenna college)、哈维・穆德学院(harvey mudd college)和匹泽学院(pitzer college)；两所研究生学院――克莱蒙特大学(claremont graduate university)和克柯研究所(keck graduate institute)和一个综合性服务机构――克莱蒙特大学联盟(claremont university consortium)。各机构之间不仅共享图书馆系统、体育设施,共同组织课外活动,而且提供合办教学项目和跨校课程注册。目前该联盟拥有逾6,000名学生,教职员工总数也超过3,300名,有2500多项课程可供克莱蒙特地区的学生自由选择。
2006年美国大学文理学院综合排名显示：pomona college(第6)、scripps college(第31)、claremont mckenna college(第10)、harvey mudd college(第18)、pitzer college(第54)均位居前列。claremont graduate university是全美少数拥有独立信息科学学院的学校,更是过去10年来世界上拥有最多信息科学博士毕业生的学院,专精领域涵盖知识管理(knowledge management)、系统开发(systems development)、电信和网络(telecom and networking)、人工智能(artificial intelligence)和数据挖掘(data mining),该校还是全美惟一提供半职学生(part-time students)的信息科学学院。
